Day 5 of 7 · Professional Pilates Trainer Certificate Course
The Cadillac, Chair, and Barrel expand the Pilates vocabulary. Each piece gives different feedback: the Cadillac offers support and spring direction, the Chair builds compact strength and balance, and the Barrel supports extension, mobility, and shape-specific work.
Use the Cadillac for supported mobility, breathing, spinal articulation, leg spring preparation, arm spring organization, roll-down bar awareness, and gentle assisted range. Watch for rib flare, neck tension, and over-gripping. Teach the client how springs pull before asking for large ranges.
The Chair is powerful and compact. Begin with seated footwork, standing pedal work with support, scapular organization, and simple balance patterns. Control the pedal return; never let the spring snap the client. Chair work is excellent for strength, but it demands respect.
The Barrel can support thoracic extension, lateral flexion, hip opening, and abdominal work. Use it to help clients feel spinal shape, not to force range. Keep the neck comfortable, maintain breath, and choose smaller arcs for stiff or anxious clients.
