Think in Moves, Not Projects

Day 9 of 30 · Done is better - Build What Matters

Learning goal

Define a move: one testable step. Choose the next move from the current state. Avoid project theater: long plans with no small wins.

Who

Anyone who wants to build what matters, especially those who struggle with big deliverables.

What

A move is a single, testable next step that advances toward an outcome. Replace big delivery with next testable step. No move = no progress.

Where

This lesson will help you understand the importance of moves and how to apply them to your work.

When

You can start applying this concept immediately, but this lesson will provide a deeper understanding of the topic.

Why it matters

Big deliverables delay feedback. Moves create momentum and learning. Testable steps reduce risk.

How

To define a move, follow these steps:

  1. State the outcome you want.

  2. What is the smallest step that could be done and verified today or this week?

  3. Define done for that step (testable).

  4. Do it; then decide the next step from evidence.

Guided exercise

Write the next move in one sentence for your current goal. Make it testable: you can say 'done' when X is true.

Independent exercise

Choose a project or goal you're working on. Apply the move concept to it. Write down your next move and why it's testable.

Self-check

You can explain the key idea in one sentence. You have one concrete move to do today.
